David Peinado | Documentary Photographer
David Peinado Romero is a Mexican documentary photographer and photojournalist born in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, whose practice moves between Michigan and Mexico. His work explores migration, borders, violence, identity, and the ways political and social forces shape everyday life.
Growing up along the U.S.–Mexico border has profoundly influenced his photographic perspective. Working across both countries, he approaches photography through a transnational lens, examining the connections between people, places, and the social realities that extend beyond geographical boundaries. Through long-term documentary projects and editorial assignments, he focuses on the human consequences of displacement, border enforcement, and social change, often following stories beyond the immediate news cycle.
His ongoing projects include Round Trip: An Endless Border, which documents migration and the evolving realities of the U.S.–Mexico border, and What Remains, an exploration of violence, memory, and absence. His practice also extends to communities and contemporary social issues across the American Midwest.
Peinado is a recipient of the 2025 Alan Hagman Photojournalism Grant and has received recognition from PX3, ND Awards, Festival della Fotografia Etica, ReFocus Awards, and the Americana Photo Award. In 2026, he participated in the Eddie Adams Workshop and was selected for The New York Times Portfolio Review and the Hamburg Portfolio Review.
His photographs have appeared in international publications and news organizations, including Reuters, The New York Times, Le Monde, and Al Jazeera.
